    (Excuse the long post... I just don't have anyone to talk to about this game) I'd never played this game, but I've seen some others play and it looked like something I would enjoy. It was on sale on Switch so I bought it up! Started it up thinking, "I'll just play a test game to figure out the basics." I did it on vanilla, no RoG, or Shipwrecked because those seemed hard and I just wanted to familiarize myself with the controls and get some basic survival things figured out.

    On Day 20 I was happily surprised. When I survived my first winter I was excited.

    Day 50! Stunned! Able to kite some bigger things--Treeguards, Spider Queens, groups of Pigs, Beefalo herds that weren't MY herd--on my own without taking too much damage and was feeling pretty proud of myself (combat is NOT my thing in any games I play).

    Day 100 I have a pretty good setup going, not as good as most of the bases I see here, but I was proud of it. It was sustainable. Had bee boxes, berries, saplings, grass, and trees that I planted and could gather stacks of 40-80 at a time. I was surrounded by bees and ponds to the north. Beefalo to the East (a HUGE herd that helped with hounds) and had a gauntlet of walled-in tooth traps that I would lead the hounds through, too. Made a Pig Village to the South and had a spider farm far enough away that when I needed meat/silk/skins I would just lead one to the other and let them fight, or I could easily take them all on if I just needed supplies. There were tons of bunnies to the East and I was a day's walk to the Pig King, mining, and a cave system. I was REALLY HAPPY.

    Okay, so I had two life-saving opportunities-- Touch Stones.

    I was off cutting trees and it was getting dark. I go back to my base and suddenly a Deerclops attacks me. I am, to put it simply, not prepared and scared silly. I don't want my base destroyed so I lure him away and halfway across the map to the Killer Bee colony because I just wanted something to distract him while I tried to attack him. I knew he'd be coming because I was in my third or fourth winter, I don't remember, so that's why I was cutting trees to try and spawn Treeguards so they could fight each other (was gonna pacify them and lead them to each other when he spawned). A bunch of hounds recently overwhelmed my beefalo herd, too.

    I run to the bees. They do pretty well. I got a couple of hits in. I had several log suits and spears and ... idk. It was just crazy. He practically one-shotted me.

    So I'm resurrected at my first touchstone but it's WINTER and it's kinda far away from my base and it was the one that I hadn't prepped yet (with some jerky, warm clothes, torch, NECESSITIES). My OTHER TOUCHSTONE had all that stuff. I just hadn't gotten around to doing this one.

    I DIED ON MY WAY BACK TO MY BASE. I COULDN'T MAKE IT. I COULDN'T FIND ENOUGH RESOURCES TO MAKE ANYTHING. UGH.
    So on my THIRD LIFE. I sorta regroup. Make new weapons. Armor. Because ALL MY STUFF is in the killer bee colony.
    I take all these eyeplants down there to plant so they'll kill the bees. It takes me forever of running in circles but eventually I kill a lot of them.

    Think I'm safe. So I start heading back.

    Hound Attack.
    I don't know what to do. There are NO BEEFALO around. No Pigmen. Nothing. I'd just killed all the bees. So I just.... I run down to the one part of the map I hadn't explored hoping for SOMETHING. I killed one or two but they were FIRE HOUNDS and BURST INTO FLAME when they died. Then I stumble upon the Chessmen (idk what they're called?) which I had been hoping for..... EARLIER. When I was PREPARED. They all attack me. I'm literally screaming out loud at my Switch and running for my life. I keep turning and trying to get a few hits in because I can't outrun them all the way to my base.

    I manage to kill one of the hoppy chess people. Bishops, maybe? I think. Then the rhino Rook just comes out of nowhere and slams into me and MURDERS ME. I got all the exp I needed to unlock all the characters (I think? It said I was at the cap and I rage quit the game).

    All in all, I think I did okay for my first game. I can't wait to try again once I'm not so upset at the loss! I can't wait to try out RoG next! I know I've barely scratched the surface of the things to do and learn.

    Just don't try fighting a treeguard without any armor, 1/3rd hp and an axe. Totally not speaking from personal experience

    What do you do with your extra skins?

    What should I do with my extra skins? Should I unravel them, and use the spools for something? Should I sell them on the steam market, or should I use the trade inn? I heard the trade inn gets more worth it during events, so is it worth it using skins for that?

    What are the seasonal/boss changes from ROG to DST?

    I am very familiar with everything in Reign of Giants except for fighting the moose/goose so I would appreciate any tips on dealing with that in spring. I recently started playing Don't Starve Together with a friend after never playing it that much before and I know that there are some differences with bosses between the two games. I wanted to know if the dragonfly comes after you in the summer or if it stays in the desert and I think I remember that it dropped some kind of pet or child so any clarification on that and what that does would be greatly appreciated. I also wanted to know more info about the moose/goose eggs like where they spawn and if the moslings come after you when they hatch. I am quite familiar and confident in all other seasons basically except for spring where I could use some tips and info on. Any other dst tips coming from rog would be greatly appreciated also.     Random hound spawns?

    So a strange thing happened today when I was playing with my kid. I went on an overnight supply run to the pig village and when I got there I was ambushed by four hounds. No warning, nothing. My kid was back at base and she did not get any hounds. A few days later we went together to the same area and got attacked by four hounds again! After we killed them we looked all over to see if there was a hound mound or something but couldn't find anything. But we discovered that if we left the area and immediately returned there would always be four more hounds.

    Is this a weird bug or did Klei add random hound spawns spots?

    Is respawning canonical?

    When i say respawn, I'm refering to playing retrying after getting a game over. I've heard from a few sources that the characters never truly die and that they always come back I'm not really sure what to believe.
