It was on public server. I recruited pigs there , after that i found completely new player that had no idea what to do, so i gave him some meat and hat, and he joined my squad.

How do you ACTUALLY do a ruins rush?

I'm really pissed off because I've watched so many videos about ruins rushing and I don't fucking understand how they just casually deal with crawling horror + terror + clockworks.

If you weave a Wendy skin, while not having any abigail skins, will the starting flower correspond to the Wendy weaved skin?

Thinking to weave Nostalgia skin, and I am wondering will my starter (I am taking about the very first flower you get when joining a game) flower have a corresponding skin to that of the Nostalgia skin, or I need to additionally weave it?

    Why is Wendy sad?

    Posted: 14 May 2021 02:00 AM PDT

I mean, she is reunited with Abigail. Abigail is capable of whispering to her therefore communication is established. Abigail can interact with the physical world.

What is there to be sad about when you've been permanently reunited with your sibling that literally cannot die again?

Lore Questions Return of Them and Ancient Fuelweaver

    Posted: 13 May 2021 10:49 PM PDT

I have some lore questions/theories i would like to know about, i'm interested in hearing lore theories from everyone too.

    • Who are Alter and Metheus? is one of them the moon eye we see in the Eye of the Storm video?
    • Why sometimes Ancients statues have heads, are headless, or sometimes are floating heads??
    • In the mural we see the Staff wielder using the ancient Fuelweaver skeleton, are these creatures older than the ancients?? are they related to wortox/krampus/klaus??
    • If the moon represents the white energy, where is the nightmare fuel coming from? Something deeper under the caves.??
    • Is the eye in the ancient gateway the same eye of the moon? Probably not, is it maybe a celestial body from another plane?
    • Is Charlie being controlled by the Night Monster part to awaken the Moon Eye thing so it can control both energies?? Maybe she'll start looking for wagstaff now that the energy was taken.
    • What would happen if both energies are used on the ancient gateway? Maybe the spiral portals that summons the characters are black and white because of that.

    My DSA tier list

    Posted: 13 May 2021 08:25 AM PDT

It's really hard to get a tier list going for this game because ultimately most of the character's perks/drawbacks are irrelevant.

In RoG and SW everyone can survive forever solely by farming spiders all day everyday 24/7. Silk recovers health and sanity via tents and siestas. And the monster meat can be turned into metaballs to fuel the tents and siestas. All needs covered forever.

In RoG and SW everyone can stay in caves or volcano for an even easier time. Caves has slower heating/freezing, permanent light sources, infinite fuel for lanterns and miner hats, Rock Lobsters that can kill literally everything, all minerals are renewable, floods of nightmare fuel, it's just too easy. Volcano similarly can avoid the entirety of the dry season.

In RoG, SW and Hamlet, all bosses except Dragonfly and Quacken can be killed by face tanking them and holding down attack with a ham bat. And they go down pretty quickly and easily with trickle damage to your health. Face tanking Pugalisk is a little more costly (it took 4 night armors with no kiting) but it still was done.

So in short, being better at logistics or combat is completely irrelevant.

And then comes hamlet where, by building a town next to the aporkalypse calendar, you just make a bajillion oincs through one of many, many methods and feed yourself forever that way with an army of royal guards protecting you from vampire bats and prevent the aporkalypse from ever occuring. Lush season is ignored by harvesting all the nettle on the Fountain of Youth island in one day once per year and you can transplant them to a sprinkler farm. Humid season is ignored by just normal wetness and sanity management which is easy when you're rich. And that's all of hamlet. And lets not forget covering the island with city lamps is not only achievable/viable, but also makes life soooooo much easier than RoG and SW.

    -----------

So in order to actually rank the characters perks/drawbacks when none of them matter, I decided to just mix and match the worst part of each DLCs and mash em together to see how each character fares. And what I came up with is permanent aporkalypse hamlet with no pig trading at all early on with SW's resource shortage (Living logs, purple gems). RoG is too easy once you got the hang of the other two DLCs. SW is only challenging at the start. Once you found your perfect island and know what each season does its pretty easy. Hamlet without pig traders is actually quite difficult because your only source of food without setting up farms is snaptooth farming. Even frogs need drying racks.

So the scenario is 60 days to prepare for the aporkalypse (Hamlet), with 0 pig trading (SW), with Treeguards being the only source of living logs (SW), no spider dens (Hamlet), nonrenewable Nitre (SW & Hamlet). And then surviving the aporkalypse for the entire 10000 years.

    -----------

Anyways, so the tier list is basically how each of the character's perks/drawbacks make the game easier or harder than Wilson in the above scenario.

    S Tier

Webber is king. I mentioned how easy spider dens make the game right? Well he's the only one who can have spider dens in all 3 DLCs. Consistency and independence of environment is power. Not to mention he's the only one who can quickly get 10+ nests going and be flooded with resources every day. So much rot for replanted stuff. So much monster meat, spider glands for combat healing, and silk for tent/siesta spam. In fact he can spam both on the go. Need a heal in the ruins? Drop one and build another. Done. He's also capable of being nomadic. He doesn't need crockpots or birdcages. This is HUGE because he doesn't need to return to base to cook food or setup more bases. He just eats monster meat raw... and that's it, he needs no other foods. Also all he needs are dens so you want to go to the ruins? Just pack up all of your spider dens and plant them in the ruins. Done. You want to switch islands in Hamlet? Done. In fact you can just build multiple bases because your spider den production is limited solely by your reed supply, and even then with perfect placement spider queens can significantly increase your spider egg produciton speed. Webber makes every DLC feel like the same thing so he is S tier. Low sanity is ignored by sleeping in a tent anywhere anytime as much as you want. His silk beard is also a godsend early game. Lastly, spider army on demand is also a god send for vampire bat waves as well.

Before Hamlet I had him at C tier because everyone can get massive amounts of spider dens.

A Tier (aka better than Wilson)

WX-78. He's a better combatant for a harder early game. Since in the hands of a skilled player this level of increased early game difficulty doesn't matter, he's better than Wilson. I think he can only get 6 gears in the above conditions but that's still better than Wilson. While I won't count thunderbirds as part of this tier list because that is this DLC exclusive, lightning during rain season has severely pissed me off on several occasions in all 3 DLCs so I will count that at least.

Wolfgang. 10% sanity increase drain is a joke. The 1.5 faster hunger rate is not a joke however. But during the Aporkalypse monster meat is not in short supply and being able to turn excess food into excess power made him easier. And before the aporkalypse I was swimming in leafy meats trying to exterminate the snaptooth population.

Wickerbottom. Silk is hard to come by so relying on sleep isn't a good strategy so her weakness isn't an issue. And due to the severe amount of manure in this game, mass farming becomes viable and unlike wormwood, Wickerbottom can severely benefit from all the different kinds of fruit so she's A tier. She's not webber level because she requires a ton of setup where as webber can breeze through the game brain dead. I mean, how hard is it to eat monster meat and spam tents?

Maxwell. Early purple gem lets him grab nightmare gear really quickly. Especially noticeable in shipwrecked. Will never run out of sanity in the middle of a boss fight. Humid season wetness combined with full nightmare gear lets him easily go insane. Honestly I never hit under 75 hp on other characters even in boss fights because face tanking with night armor and football helmet is that good so his downside is ignorable. And its not hard to use healing foods to stay topped off. Also he's the only one that has workers that can chop down trees. Well, at least without having to deal with Mants.

    B Tier (aka Wilson tier)

Wilson. Nothing bad, nothing good, except easier access to meat effigies.

Wormwood. This one was a toughie. In hamlet healing is a bitch. Wormwood is the character that trivializes all but one aspect of the game. Wormwood has infinite sanity. He can in fact heal his sanity 0 to full during a boss fight so he can make his night armor absorb most of the damage. He also doesn't need to wear top hats 24/7 or farm small jerkies. Wormwood has infinite food. He even has infinite living logs. But health and flammability are huge. Silk being so difficult to obtain with a danger of becoming extinct, farming mosquitoes for a trickle of health, needing to kill Pugalisk regularly for bone shards so you can turn manure into buckets of poop and heal that way, or farming snapteeth 24/7 to get nectar for honey poultices which also marries him to the first island. His flammability makes Thunderbirds insanely dangerous and certain bosses can kill Wormwood even under night armor + football helmet because of it. But then i realized other characters have just as much trouble healing outside of the early game Aloe supply. They need to kill pugalisk regularly too for snake bone soup because fish is nonexistant in this game, and mosquitoes are easily farmed just not mass farmed. Worse at combat (flammability) and harder healing for much easier food, dark swords, and sanity. I'd say it cancels out. So he's b tier. I'd mention his hay fever immunity but nettle is so easy to mass it's a trivial perk. He can also use Dark Swords to farm shadow creatures which although slows down fuel acquisition a little bit, it makes terrorbeaks less stressful to kill so I count that as a plus. I would've mentioned being able to infest his living area with snapteeth for vampire bats, but since that's DLC specific I'm gonna exclude it.

C Tier (aka worse than Wilson)

Wendy. If Wendy didn't have the -25% damage penalty she would be A tier. But she does. And because Abigail is worthless, she's down here because she's basically a slightly better Wes. Abigail dies to Merms, Pigs, Hounds, Tentacles, Bosses, Snaptooths, just everything. If you use Abigail to kill Tentacles/Depthworms/Snapteeth she'll make the first or second one easier than Wilson because you don't have to kite. Just have Abigail tank and wail away. But once abigail falls, you're worse than Wilson. Her ability to spider farm doesn't exist in Hamlet. The best abigail does is help kill poison frogs but she can't handle too many and have to fight at dusk/night. Not worth the -25% so she's worse than Wilson. Less sanity drain is a non issue.

Wes. Intentional challenge character is self explanatory.

Wigfrid. In RoG and SW I'd say she's A Tier because she's basically a no downside character with combat buffs. But in Hamlet, Lush Season without nettles is hell. Gas mask makes sanity hell on top of Wigfrid being unable to eat the various vegetables makes preparing for the aporkalypse that much harder because she has to waste sooooooo much time dealing with these things. In my experience she was harder than Wilson to play so she goes here.

Willow. Burns her own bases and farms down and low sanity is inevitable.

Walani. All her benefits are basically exclusive to SW. No consistency = worse than Wilson.

Warly. No benefits, only downsides. 33% more food but at the same time food drains 33% faster? And the whole remembering past dishes mechanic? What exactly is this guy good for? Portable crockpot? crockpot isn't exactly hard to spam all over the map.

Never Played tier (aka I can't judge because i never played, or can't even make a guess)

    Woodie

    Wagstaff

    Wilbur

    Wilba

    Wheeler

    -------------

This tier list is not final. If you disagree post away! Tier lists are an excuse to talk about characters in a game you love!

Easy way to deal with giants (except dragonfly)

    Posted: 13 May 2021 11:09 AM PDT

I was wondering how well this plan will work. I thought it would be an easy way to deal lots of damage to deerclops or bearger quickly if not defeat them altogether. I set up a line of tooth traps, two traps wide and about 15 traps long so around 30 traps. Then at the end of the line I placed two bee mines. Nearby I placed a chest with some ranged weapons like ice staff and darts in case more is needed to finish them off. Is this a good idea? I know the tooth traps will work on deerclops wasn't sure if bearger will destroy them though. Oh I've got an old bell in the chest as well in case I need it.

Is Don't Starve a good cure for gaming boredom?

    Posted: 13 May 2021 03:21 AM PDT

So I'm bored with pretty much every game I own at the moment. While I can play a few for a while and get some enjoyment, I really need a game that can draw me in like Bloodborne or Hollow Knight did - basically suck away my life for a few weeks.

Obviously I know this game is nothing like the two I mentioned, but I am partial to this genre and Don't Starve has grabbed my interest. I want to know if it might be a game I can lose myself in for a few hours. I don't want to buy another game and end up dropping it a few days later all over again.

    Divining Rod and Wooden Thing

    Hi everyone,

In my current game, I'm trying to find Maxwell's Door with the Divining Rod, but I ran across a Wooden Thing, and as you can't remove it, that makes it a lot harder to find the door, since the Rod keeps beeping for the Thing - is there anything I can do about it?
