State of the sub 2020-07-25 : New rule update

    Posted: 25 Jul 2020 04:15 AM PDT

Hello everyone, so the new rules and automoderator have been running for a month and I want to thank everyone who gave feedback. Hopefully these new changes will go along your suggestions as much as possible.

Dedicated Meme and Let's Play days + megathread

So the Meme day seems to be working fine but the let's play not so much. Since there have been request for a second meme day Friday will so be dedicated for Meme as well. So no more Let's Play day but don't be sad and read the Self Promotion section.

The megathread is also not used so for the rest of the week you can post meme on the subreddit https://www.reddit.com/r/DSTmemes/

For now 2nd sticky out of meme days has been converted into a Free Forum because I can't figure of a way to have automoderator remove a sticky but it might change if I find something else to replace it with.

    Self Promotion

Self promotion has always been a touchy subject because of how some users would spam their content in the hope of increasing traffic. But there is less of those these days so I changed the rule for content sharing (particularly let's play and other videos).

Now it will be based on how much participation you show:

    • If you only post your own content and barely participate even in your own posts, your content will be considered spam and removed.
    • If your profil is active (even in other communities) and you interact in your post you will be limited by 1 self-promotion post per week.
    • If you are active on the subreddit, you can make 1 self-promotion post per day. Stay reasonable though and don't try to fill every day just because you can please.

All of that information can be found in the rule wiki

    Drama

An other contentious point is drama, in particular youtube drama. There has been multiple time where youtubers posted video about drama between them trying to raise awareness or settle scores. While it might be sometimes legitimate it's complicated for the sub to stay partial and allow both side to post since the downvote system will likely bury one side.

So it's time to take a stance on those and that is to forbid such content. Youtube has its own community (so does the Klei forums and Steam) so they will have to reach for others on those community to spread the word.

    Toxic Behavior

I have always been lax when it comes to moderating comment (as long as it didn't come to insult) to limit censorship but sometimes it has certainly abused. As such toxic behavior will now be hit with progressively longer ban.

I added a non-exhaustive list of toxic behavior on the wiki rules:

    • Ask someone to remove their post. Unless the post fall directly into one of the rule but even there prefer to report and let the moderators handle it.
    • Leaving negative comments without being constructive.
    • Insulting, doxing, witch-hunting, etc. These should be obvious but it can't hurt to repeat them
    • Going into drama and flame wars. Don't feed the trolls, report and move out of the conversation if someone is trying to turn it into a flame war

And it's worth to insist but someone disagreeing with you do not count as toxic.

Since I can't be in every comment thread don't forget to use the report function.

    What's to come?

Right now I'm checking what I can do with flairs.

Post flairs could use a rework probably to be more about what content the post is about rather than what game.

As for user flairs I know we are missing many of the new characters and Hamlet but the flair list has really become a mess. I might have to clean up the flair list of monsters and the like and stick with characters' faces.

the moon vs. them; is the moon friendly?

    Posted: 26 Jul 2020 12:20 AM PDT

the moon vs. them; is the moon friendly?

Charlie's machinations have come to a head as she turns her attention towards the skies - and the mysterious entity that awaits there.

I always thought this meant that the moon was a tool Charlie was going to use against the survivors, but it seems...

The seas seem to grow more dangerous with every passing day. Is this the work of Charlie, or is the strange, mutating influence of the moon growing stronger? (Troubled Waters description)

The moon is a separate entity, then? Not to mention full sanity is the lunar equivalent of insanity, and vice versa with the shadow's insanity. Funny enough, the moon was implied to be a living thing a while back with the quotes for moon walls (though perhaps these were only recently changed to reflect the new updates?)

From the DST Wiki, wall page.

So if the moon is the opposite of them, does that mean it's friendly? I mean, the survivors seem pretty happy and sleepy on the lunar island, and the gestalts seem nice enough-- they don't damage you, simply make you... perform that weird animation and walk kind of slow.

any theories?? comments, corrections, things to add??

    Cant find good world

    Posted: 25 Jul 2020 01:35 PM PDT

Ive been looking for a good world to megabase in for 4 hours. I finally found a good one and there wasnt a glommer statue or a pan flute anywhere. I finally found another one when i came across the shadow pieces but the only statue that was there was the rook. Im getting extremely unlucky. And im on console so no commands. Any ideas on how i can finally find a livable world???

    Character combination

    Posted: 25 Jul 2020 09:07 AM PDT

Im gonna play with a friend (it's just gonna be two of us) and i've been wondering which character combi would work best in our case. She's a total noob (i only dragged her into playing with me) and i am with decent experience (neither a what-am-i-supposed-to-do noob nor an ive-been-playing-for-years kind of pro) im able to survive couple of years but i am playing with someone whi doesnt even have a background of the game. Of course i suggested that she watch tutorials first but i want to know which character combi would best work for us

P.s. this is my first transition from RoG to DST so im not quite familiar on how dst exclusive characters work

New character Concept (miner/ ruins rusher)(Wyan)

    Posted: 25 Jul 2020 06:36 AM PDT

"Just like my grandpa and his grandpa and his grandpa's grandpa"-Wyan

Wyan comer from a long family of miners who mined minerals in underground caves. His family has been doing it for hundreds of years as a result he gains the following perks.

    Stats. 200 Hunger 150 Sanity 125 Health

Buffs Inherits the Family mining hat ( modified miner hat that charged by sunlight or refueled by nitre)" My family's mining hat which has been in the family for hundreds of year"

Gets double resources of mined minerals. " Take that mr.rock or mrs.rock... do rocks even have genders"

Pickaxes last twice as long. " The tool of my family, what's there more to say.

    Debuffs

Hate spiders/Webber (-400 sanity aura similar to deerclops)- "spiders... why'd it have to be spiders"

Can not remove family mining hat restricting user to chest slot for amour, warmth and backpack." I would never removed the family hat"

Is naturally hated by rock lobsters." I guess rocks do have genders"

Conclusion basicly a rock version of woodie and ruins rusher.

Hi, does someone want to play together?

    Posted: 25 Jul 2020 09:21 AM PDT

    Hi donstarve group!

My 2 friends and I are playing DST for some time now and we would love to have a 4th player joining our group.

We are all still quite new to this game and maybe with a 4th player we can manage to survive more days. So if you are lonely playing this game and would like to join our little team let me know :)!

I'd like a sort of checklist for surviving the first days and prepping for deerclop and the first winter

    building the odd skeleton

    Posted: 25 Jul 2020 10:09 AM PDT

omfg... I'm trying to fight fuelweaver and this asshole keeps fucking up the odd skeleton. i just spent 5 straight minutes building, tearing down, and rebuilding the odd skeleton. wtf is the point of having incorrect builds other than to piss off the player? according to the wiki there's only a 40% chance it's built wrong, but it seems like its 99% UGH

    Old Woodie Mechanics

    Posted: 25 Jul 2020 04:15 AM PDT

Hi everyone, I wondered if anyone knew of a way to have the old Woodie Mechanics. By that I mean the time where he had to eat logs. I know that not a lot of people like that Version but I thought that it was cool. Perhaps there is a mod that I don't know about but if anyone knows you can tell me! Thank you!
