I’ve noticed that there seems to be a surprising amount of official artwork of Webber and Wendy. I just think it’s strange.

    Don't Starve Shipwreck Mobile

    Posted: 26 Mar 2020 03:31 AM PDT

I already bought the game on steam and planning to buy it for mobile. But as I see on the google play, shipwreck is a standalone app instead of DLC, so I'm wondering, if I bought shipwreck for mobile, will it also contain the base game? What I mean base game is, will I be able to play vanilla on Shipwreck mobile?

Common Don't Starve Together server issues and their solutions

    Posted: 25 Mar 2020 04:40 PM PDT

Server has no lag for me, my friend says it's fine, but my other friend has lag.

If your other friend is playing over wifi or doesn't commonly play online games, then the likely cause is that their connection isn't reliable. Have them ping 1.1.1.1 and report back the results. If they're ever getting response times of over 100ms, or dropped packets, then they have some network reliability issue on their end.

However the more common cause is that you're hosting the server over a residential internet connection. Also known as hosting it from your computer at home. Because residential internet connections are some distance away from the "pipe" the connection from one residential connection to another residential connection can be unreliable. It can work great for some people and poorly for others. The causes can be very random and hard to predict. Maybe you have spectrum and they have AT&T and that causes some issue even.

For optimal network reliability, host your server in a datacenter.

Server was fine when one friend joined, but when a bunch of friends joined we started getting issues.

Check to see if you're CPU bottlenecked. If you're running at high CPU load across multiple cores, then you may need to limit the number of people on your server at once. Or host your server on a better computer. From experience I can tell you that modern hardware can support 30 players at once without issues.

Server ran fine at first, but late game in endless mode, there's serious issues with the daily saving of the game.

The likely cause is a disk IO bottleneck. On linux you can check this with the iotop tool. This is very common on servers hosted in the cloud, because cloud servers by default use network attached storage, which has poor IO capacity.

For best results you want to use a local NVME disk. Local SSD is usually fine though.

Server was running fine for a while, then it got really slow then crashed.

You need to closely monitor your RAM to make sure you don't run out of memory. Using 30% of the available RAM vs using 70% of available RAM won't change your performance. However if you run out of RAM then the server either starts paging/swapping, which means it uses the disk as RAM which will result in greatly degraded performance. Or it just crashes. Or more commonly first it pages/swaps then it crashes.

I paid good money for this server but it's so slow!

$5 a month is not "good money." Game servers you get from game server sites for cheap prices, are generally run in datacenters which is good, but are also run on shared hardware which isn't so good. So you could get decent performance at 4AM but your CPU can get clamped at peak hours leading to greatly degraded performance.

For optimal performance you want a server that has two or more cores all to itself, which costs more than $5 a month unfortunately.

    What do you recommend then?

That depends on a lot of factors. What your goals are in the game and for your server, your budget. Whether you want the server to be public or private. How often you want the server to be online. How many people you want to play with at one time and similar.

If you want advice on how to meet your server goals leave a comment here and I'll be happy to help where I can.
