    Kinda clueless

    Posted: 25 Feb 2020 05:40 PM PST

So I have been playing this game on and off for a while but I love the mechanics and pretty much everything about the game, my favorite character is Wolfgang and I pretty much just always do the same thing- get materials for a ice box, crock pot, then hunt meat and grow berries for meatballs and thats about it. I just wanna do something different, so any tips or people willing to help me learn some stuff? I'm on PS4 if you wanna play.

    10 Beginner mistakes!

    Posted: 25 Feb 2020 05:34 PM PST

    1: Picking up flowers
I do not recommend picking up flowers unless you really need a quick sanity boost. I don't think it worth picking them up for 5 sanity, in cost of something that spawns that can heal you for 8 HP when you kill it.

2: Making the wrong winter clothing.
Please, do not make the Winter Hat nor the Breezy Vest. The Winter Hat will give you 120 insulation and the Breezy Vest will give you only 60 which is quite bad considering that you could get 240 insulation with the Beefalo Hat. Also, getting the Breezy Vest is extremely expensive and time consuming and it's betterr to use a backpack on the chest slot untill you get the Puffy Vest.

    3: Using Traps.
You will only use Traps once for the Prestihatitator. You shouln't use it for something else such as hunting. If you wanna morsels, there are better ways to get it.

4: Breaking sinkholes near your base.
Batilisks can spawn out of sinkholes, and they can be quite annoying to deal with, especially since the can travel pretty far and up to 6 will spawn.

5: Mining ice in any other season than Winter and Spring.
It's far more efficient to get ice in the winter than autunm. Also, there are way more fillers available in Autumn than in the winter, therefore, it's better to collect berries than ice.

6: Getting distracted by other things while having an objective
If you for example want to farm wood and find something rare, you should still farm the wood instead, and mark what you found. Getting distracted can really be a pain to your progress.

    7: Picking up carrots.
You could just get berries instead. Carrots are pretty good for emergencies, therefore, leave them on the ground.

8: Not exploring the world before making a base.
Just because you found a pig village with a Pig King it doesn't mean it's a good location. You should rather make a base near to important biomes such as forests, rocky biome etc.

9: Not using the night time properly.
Many beginners make camp fires and cook their food and just it there doing nothing. That's etremely bad for your progress, and instead of cooking berries, just eat them raw. Also make torches to explore more.

10: Sleeping when you don't need to.
You only should sleep if you don't have a light source. It isn't worth sleeping since it's a pretty big waste of time and it costs a lot of hunger and you don't get enough sanity and HP.

    A Little Help With Servers

    Posted: 25 Feb 2020 12:34 PM PST

There are some servers that I come back to a lot, but to continuously play on them, I need to either write down the name or hide the name so it stands out. Is there any way to save or mark a server, or do I have to stick to what I usually do?

    How servers work?

    Posted: 25 Feb 2020 07:40 AM PST

Hi everyone! Sorry for the bad english!

Please, how do servers work? I mean, I played vanilla ds now I'm trying DST, but I dont understand how servers work... Like, if you join a server you start like a brand new game? And when the host chooses to end the server it just erases all my progress? I think dst is a quite long game... it would be a shame if I could only get to day 30 due to hosts killing the server...

    Thanks! =)

    Gekko Farm problem

    Posted: 25 Feb 2020 06:17 AM PST

I tried to make a Gekko Farm, but it doesn't seem to work. I have pretty much followed THAT video on trying to make it. Got 6 Gekkos to farm, but haven't been able to farm more in about 100 days.

    The wiki page says:

This can only happen if there are no Grass Gekkos in a distance of 20 units (5 tiles).

What is considered to be 1 unit/tile in the game?

I'd say I have 6 tiles between the Gekkos & Grass Tuft areas (considering 1 tile = 1 turf a pitchfork can dig up). But since it's not working and Gekkos arent spawning, I guess my understanding might be wrong?

    Any ideas?
